Kvas From Oats Without Yeast

Kvas is an ethnic Slavic drink, used to quench thirst for countless generations. Kvas from oats is often used for insomnia, fatigue, increased appetite and weakness. It cleanses the body of toxins, strengthens the immune system, has pleasant taste and is easy to prepare.

For a 3-liter jar:

Take 1 liter (about a third of the jar) of washed whole oats, fill with water, add two tablespoons of sugar or raw honey, cover with cloth.

Place the jar in a warm place for 2-3 days.

You can also add some raisins.

The first “fill” will give a dark drink.

Drain the liquid through a sieve. Rinse the oats. Wash the oats and place them back in the jar, add sugar to taste. Fill with water and leave for a couple of days. If it is very hot, the kvas will be ready in a day. Drain only the kvas, for oats can be used for up to two months, each time simply add water and sugar.

As you can see, it is a very simple recipe. As with all recipes, use your common sense: do not “over-brew the kvas. Enjoy.
